Mtwara. Mbae Primary School pupils have every reason to smile after 10 new latrines were constructed at their school located in Mikindani,  Mtwara Municipality, being an addition to the two that were in existence.

Speaking at the school on Monday, November 20, one of the pupils, Subira Ally, said before the completion of the new sanitation facilities, it was always a nightmare for them to go to the only two toilets that were there, forcing others to relieve themselves in the surrounding bushes.

For her part, Women of Vision Organisation’s chairperson Adeline Karumuna said they were not happy about the situation the school community lived in and hence decided to support them by building 10 pit latrines.

“This will improve sanitation and hygiene conditions at the school and they will be free from various diseases,” she said.

She argued that when a pupil suffered from one illness or the other, it was difficult for them to follow their studies efficiently.

For his part, Mtwara district commissioner Evod Mmanda thanked the organisation for its support.

He revealed that the construction has also supported Maendeleo Primary School by constructing 10 pit latrines for the community.

Mr Mmanda urged other organisations to emulate the Women of Vision Organisation.
