Mwanza. Some Mwanza residents have urged the government to take action against a wave of abductions or people going missing.

They said such incidents had become common in Tanzania.

Speaking on different occasions on October 11, 2018, they said Thursday’s abduction of prominent businessman Mohamed Dewji, popularly known as Mo Dewji, was yet another sign of worsening security.

“Tanzania is no longer safe. People have been going missing or abducted. Such incidents have become common. People like Ben Saanane and Azory Gwanda have disappeared. Now it’s Mo Dewji. Who is next? We don’t know,” said Mr Ahmed Chonza, a resident of Kenyatta Street in Mwanza City.

Mr Said Ismail, a resident of Iloganzara in Mwanza City, said fear had started gripping Tanzanians.

He called on state security organs to arrest perpetrators.

Another city resident, Mr Theophil Sued, said Mr Dewji’s abduction had dented Tanzania’s image as peaceful country.

He believes such an incident will scare away foreign investors.
