Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) has condemned the arrest of advocate Patricia Ng’mario.

A THRDC news alert released on Tuesday, September 12, says Ms Ng’mario was arrested by police on Tuesday, September 11, following an order of Hai District Commissioner Lengai ole Sabaya on allegation of challenging his orders against investors and human rights defenders.

“It is worth recalling that one week ago the advocate wrote a letter to the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner complaining against orders issued by the DC to investors and human rights defenders. She did so in the course of implementing her duties as an advocate,” reads the THRDC news alert. “This has however turned out to be a misery to her. THRDC strongly condemns her arrest and calls for her immediate and unconditional release.”

According to THRDC reports, the advocate is being held at Bomang’ombe Police Station in Hai.

THRC noted that efforts were underway to ensure her release on bail.
