In-form Simba eye Kagera Sugar scalp

Dar es Salaam. In-form Simba will be seeking to maintain their winning run in the Mainland Premier League when they face Kagera Sugar at the Kaitaba Stadium in Bukoba, Kagera.

Simba, who came from behind to thump hosts Coastal Union 2-1 in Tanga on Wednesday, need a win so as to inch closer to the summit of the 20-team league.

Kagera Sugar, on the other hand, will be fighting for three points so as to revive their slim hopes to avoid relegation.

Kagera Sugar are now placed 17th with 36 points from 32 matches.

A win in today’s match, which kicks off at 2pm, will enable them to move three places up the ladder and leapfrog Mwadui FC.

Simba sit third with 60 points from 23 matches, 14 points behind leaders Young Africans, who have played 32 games so far.

Azam FC, who lost 1-0 to Ndanda FC in Mtwara on Thursday, are second with 66 points from 32 matches.

Simba, who have vowed to retain the title, have been winning matches almost at will this season.

Strikers Meddie Kagere and Emmanuel Okwi are among players Kagera Sugar must mark tightly if they are to avoid humiliation.

Simba will narrow the gap with title rivals Yanga to 11 points if they win.

down the Bukoba team.

“We are here for a victory,” Simba head coach Patrick Aussems said yesterday.

His Kagera Sugar counterpart Mecky Mexime also predicted a win for his team.

“We know that we must win at least five matches if we are to avoid relegation. We will, therefore, be all out for a victory,” said Mexime.
