Dar es Salaam. Arusha cricket ladies were yesterday awarded a victory through the so-called ‘Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method-DLS’ against their hosts, Dar es Salaam, after their T20 Regional Women’s Cricket match was interrupted by torrential rains.

The rains also halted yesterday’s several other tournament fixtures, leading to their cancellations. They are expected to be played today should the weather become favourable.

The DLS is a mathematical formulation designed to calculate the target score for the team batting second in a limited overs cricket match interrupted by weather or other circumstances.

It is generally accepted to be the most accurate method of setting a target score.

Before the rains started, the hosts Dar es Salaam batted to score 54/10 all out in the 19.5 overs.

The Arusha ladies started their inning to score 39/3 in the n15.1 overs by the time the match was switched off to apply the DLS method.

The cancellation was because the grounds turned into ‘slippery’ because of the rains.

The other match that had to be cancelled was between Uluguru Stars and revamped Morogoro Ladies.

The encounter was scheduled to be played at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) grounds.

At the same grounds Tanga were to face Uluguru Stars and Dar es Salaam, who lost to Morogoro in their midweek fixture, against Tanga.

Apart from being awarded a walkover, Arusha had also to play Mwanza while the latter (Mwanza) took on Morogoro at the Annadil Burhani ground.

The tournament is aimed at selecting the national women’s team ahead of the 2019 ICC Women’s Africa World Cup Qualifiers penciled for May 3-13 in Zimbabwe.
