Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s up-and-coming swimmer Nabeel Gahhu says he will be gunning for medals when the South Africa Level 3 Regional Championship gets underway next week.

Nabeel is among eight swimmers who are expected to leave for South Africa on Sunday for the championship to be held at the Ellis Park, Johannesburg from March 28 to 31.

“I am in fine form and my task is to improve on my personal best and win medals in my races,” Nabeel, a student at Al Muntazir Boys secondary School in Dar es Salaam, told The Citizen yesterday.

The gifted swimmer will compete in seven events in the much anticipated championship.

Swimmers from around the African continent will battle it out for medals in 419 events during the four-day championship, according to the organisers.

Nabeel – a member of Tanzania swimming Club (TSC) –assured local swimming fans that he has what it takes to compete against the continent’s best.

Other medal hopeful athletes are Peter Itatiro, Natalia Ladha, Sophia Latiff, Isabelle Powell, Niamh Powell, Aravind Raghavendran and Ria Save.
