Kweka wins in Masters swimming competition

Dar es Salaam.  Dar es Salaam Swimming Club (DSC) swimmer, Donald Kweka has won the just ended 2018 Masters swimming championships held at the Shaaban Robert Secondary School pool in Dar es Salaam.

Kweka scored 232 points to beat 42 other swimmers who competed in five different swimming styles in the second edition of the event organised by Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA). 

Besides Kweka, DSC was also represented by Boyd David who scored nine points and was placed 43rd. Kweka took the event by storm to win gold medals in 100 metres freestyle, 50 metres freestyle, 25 metres breaststroke, 50 metres backstroke, and 25 metres butterfly.

He also won gold medals in 25 metres backstroke, 50 metres butterfly, 100 metres Individual Medley (IM) and 100 metres backstroke. He bagged a silver medal in 50 metres breaststroke and came forth in 25 metres freestyle.

In the women category, Taliss-IST swimmer, Megan Hardeman finished at the top after collecting 148 points to beat 22 other women swimmers.  Clare Germain of Mis Piranhas finished second with 137 points and Bluefins swimmer, Leena  Divecha came third with 130 points. 

DSC’s swimmer, Caroline Patrick finished 21st after scoring 40 points.

Kweka who serves as TSA  director of education and development was followed by Khalid Rushaka of UDSM-Sharks who scored 220 and Adam Kitururu also from UDSM Sharks with 197 points.

Speaking to The Citizen, Kweka said he trained hard in order to win the top position.

“It was not an easy win we were only two swimmers from DSC in men ‘s category and one swimmer in women’s event.  I pulled up my socks to make my club shine. We need to be proud of it,” said Kweka.
