Dar es Salaam. Stand United of Shinyanga yesterday won 1-0 against Dar Young Africans famously Yanga in their mainland premier league soccer match held at the Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga Region.

Shinyanga’s Stand United have this season broken the unbeaten record of the Jangwani Street lads. Before losing yesterday’s duel, Yanga were the only team that had not lost a game since the start of this season’s Tanzania Premier League.

Yanga’s defeat seems to have excited their traditional rivals, Simba, who are 20 points behind Yanga. Simba have not played six games to equal with those played by Yanga. The header in the 88th minute by Jacob Massawe of Stand United left Yanga fans in sadness as their rivals, Simba, celebrated the goal.

Massawe, who is the skipper of the Shinyanga side, connected a cross by teammate Sixtus Mwasaekaga, making the fans and players of the team ecstatic including those, who were wearing Simba’s outfit.

In the encounter Yanga had to use their custodian, Klaus Kindoki, who has lost his father in his native country of the DRC Congo. Yanga head coach Mwinyi Zahera had no means, but to field Kindoki as the first goalkeeper of the Jangwani Street lads, Ramadhani Kabwili, has picked up an injury.

The registration of another goalkeeper of Yanga, Ibrahim Hamid, who was signed in a mini window and was at the bench in yesterday’s match is said to have not pleased Zahera. The game would almost be cancelled after a downpour before the start of the game. Some soccer leaders including the game’s commissar had to meet for consultations before agreeing the match to be held after the rains stopped.

Both teams started the match at a slow pace in the 14th minute a shot by Yanga’s Ibrahim Ajib was saved by Stand United’s custodian Mohammed Makaka.

Makaka had to do an extra job when he expertly saved a free kick by Ajib. Stand United launched a good attack in the 36th minute, but a shot by Afidhi Mussa was saved by Klaus Kindoki of Yanga .

In the second half, Haruna Moshi Boban and Mrisho Ngassa of Yanga were substituted and their positions were taken by Herietier Makambo and Pius Buswita while Mwinyi Elias and Moris Mahela of Stand United were substituted as well and their positions were filled by Datius Peter and Willium Kimazi.

The changes rejuvenated Yanga, who launched a number of attacks towards the goal of their rivals and in the 55th minute Makambo missed a clear goal when his shot was saved by Makaka. Amissi Tambwe of Yanga failed to finish a cross by Ngassa in the 26th after his header went over the bar.

In another Premier league match held yesterday, Lipuli of Iringa won 1-0 against Mtinwa Sugar of Morogoro at the Samora Stadium. Seif Karie scored for Lipuli.
