Taliss-IST, Bluefins, DSC top in Junior Swimming

 Junior swimmers from various clubs in the country dive during the National Swimming Championships event held at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) Upanga swimming pool.

Dar es Salaam. Taliss-IST swimming club has swept medals galore at the Tanzania Junior swimming championships held over the weekend at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) pool in Upanga.

Taliss-IST club finished at the top of the medal standings in both men and women categories in the event which was sponsored by SBC Tanzania Limited (Pepsi).

Taliss – IST scored 1231.5 in men’s category while Bluefins collected 810.5 and DSC which was defending champions, scored 512.

Morogoro’s Mis Piranhas finished fourth with 331 points, followed by Champion Rise in fifth places with (290), Wahoo of Zanzibar (64) and Heaven of Peace Academy in the seventh after collecting 26 points.

In women’s category, Taliss-IST scored 1,595, Bluefins (686), DSC (619), Wahoo (251), Mis Piranhas (212), Heaven of Peace Academy ( 8) and Champion Rise got 4 points. Taliss-IST swimmer, Aravind Raghavendran scored 220 points in the event. He took part in 13 events out of which 11 events were of his age category, one open category and one relay event.

He got 13 gold medals from the 13 events. Also he made nine new national records and is the only swimmer to have made national record in all the strokes of swimming in this competition. He has been declared the best swimmer in his age category.

Natalia Ladha put 11 new national records in women category. She also won 12 gold medals, and two silvers to become overall winner of age category 10 and 11 years . The event saw Sarah Imran Dewji improving her personal best time in the event which was sponsored by Pepsi. Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general said the event was successfull and they are happy to scout swimmers who would be developed for the next generation.

“We are very happy to see younger swimmers compete in the event. We had more than 250 swimmers across the country, it is encouraging for the game ‘s development despite the challenges,” said Inviolata. She said their target is to develop the swimmers for the benefit of the nation despite the challenges they are facing. “We are doing our best in developing the game, but we are facing a number of challenges to reach our taget, we need support from stakeholders in order to excel,” said Inviolata.
