Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) has unveiled an eight-member squad for the Africa Level 3 Regional Championship, which roars into life on March 28 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The swimmers will leave for South Africa on Sunday for the four-day championship, according to Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general, Inviolata Itatiro.

In an interview with The Citizen yesterday, Itatiro said the event would take place at the Ellis Park swimming pool.

She named the swimmers as Nabeel Gahhu, Ria Save, Peter Itatiro, Natalia Ladha, Sophia Latiff, Aravind Raghavendran, Isabelle and Niamh Powell.

“They (swimmers) are now shaping up in Dar es Salaam under the tutelage of coach Alex Mwaipasi ahead of the Johannesburg championship,” said Itatiro.

He said they will leave for South Africa early so as to acclimatise with the Johannesburg weather, which is a bit colder than that of Dar es Salaam.

“The championship will bring together top swimmers from around the African continent,” said Itatiro.

In 2016, Tanzania fielded seven swimmers in the Africa Level 3 Regional Championship – Jacqueline Kortland, Celina Itatiro, Adil Bharmal and Josephine Oosterhuis.

Also on the list were Pieter de Raadt, Marin De Villard, and Amani Doggart. The team was under two coaches, namely Michael Livingstone and Alex Mwaipasi.
