TMA warns of heavy rains in some parts of Tanzania

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) has warned residents in some parts of the country that they would experience rains above normal range, between November (2018) and April (2019).

TMA director general Dr Agnes Kijazi made the announcement during a press conference in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, October 18.

Dr Kijazi revealed that unimodal areas such as western, central, southern western, southern highlands, southern regions, southern coast and southern parts of Morogoro region are expected to experience heavy rains.

She was presenting the Climate Outlook for Msimu rains (November, 2018 -April, 2019).

Dr Kijazi further said the rains are expected to commence in the first and second week of November, 2018.

"Disaster management authorities are advised to prepare a contingency plan as well as budget necessary to carter for any negative impact that the rain might cause,” said Dr Kijazi.

The TMA boss also urged health authorities to take relevant precaution as there is a possibility of epidemic diseases during the period.
