TPDF soldiers arrive in Lindi to revamp cashew nut processing plant

  • Soldiers from Tanzania People’s Defense Force (TPDF) arrived in Lindi on November 14 and camped at the cashew nut processing plant, Buko.

  • This comes 2 days after President Magufuli said the government would now purchase cashew nut from farmers.

Lindi. Tanzania People’s Defense Force (TPDF) has arrived on the ground on Lindi today November 14 and camped at the cashew nut processing plant, Buko, located in Mtama constituency.

TPDF is expected to evaluate the plant and work on ensuring that it is revamped.

This comes 2 days after President Magufuli said the government would now purchase cashew nut from farmers.

The TPDF soldiers arrived in Lindi, led by Cornel Rajab Mabele, Lindi Regional Commissioner Godfrey Zambi and a representative of the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank Limited (TADB, Mr Adam Kamana.

Speaking after the handover of Buko plant to TPDF, Cornel Mabele said after evaluation, TPDF would embark on the work of revamping it.

“We will make sure it works up to standards according to the orders given to us by the President,’’ he said and added that the cashew nut god owns were now highly guarded.

The TADB representative, Mr Kamana said, “In the cashew nut supply chain, we must learn not to sell raw materials from the farms. The president has seen this and he directed us to work on that. That’s why we are here,’’ he told journalists.

He said he was sure the farmers would now start being paid, at a cost of Sh3000 per kilo, and the money was ready as per the President’s directive.

“The money is in our systems. Here, we have just come to put a system in place,’’ he added.
