Tanzania plans new Mbeya road for trucks into Southern Africa

Mbeya. The government is planning to build a new road that will specifically be used by vehicles that transport goods to southern Africa countries, Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan has revealed.

She said here yesterday that the road will seek to divert slippery area around Mbalizi Mountain that is prone to road accidents.

The Vice President made the revelation when she made a stop in Mbalizi township to deliver condolences to residents following a recent accident that killed 20 people and left 45 others injured.

“My intension of stopping here is to deliver my condolence message to you and assure you that the government has decided to build a new road that will pass through another area. The new road will specifically be for vehicles transporting goods while this one will still be used for passenger vehicles. Our aim is to prevent recurrence of accidents in the area,” she said.

She said she was in Mbeya to inspect development projects in the region after being sent by President John Magufuli.

She asked Mbeya residents to work hard for the country’s good.
