Lindi. The Lindi Regional Administration has directed the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (Tarura) to stop signing contracts with sub-contractors through corrupt means and favoritism.
By doing so, the regional administration said, Tarura will fail to supervise such the sub-contractors,a situation which will result into poor workmanship.
Lindi Regional Commissioner Godfrey Zambi gave the directive when speaking on Thursday, January 10, 2019, with Roads Board members.
Zambi explained that he had been receiving complaints from contractors that Tarura entered into contracts through favoritism, saying he revisit them.
For his part,Lindi District’s Road Construction Acting Manager Aswile Mwasaga, was of the view that such actions were done by managers who lacked integrity.
Mr Mwasaga added that such acts tarnished the good image of the profession, calling for a thorough investigation to identify the culprits.
The Tarura’s coordinator for Lindi Region,Ms Agatha Mtwangambate, said such complaints tarnished the institution’s image, adding, however, that they would take disciplinary and legal actions against the culprits.
Ms Mtwangambate explained that during the 2019/20 financial year, Tarura’s action plan was to ensure that all contracts were signed.
