Traders to miss new business licences over lack of addresses

Dodoma. The regional commissioner for Dodoma, Dr Binilith Mahenge, has directed council business officials not to issue new business licences to traders if their areas have no addresses of residence.

Dodoma District Commissioner Patrobas Katambi made the statement on Thursday, December 13, 2018, on behalf of the Dodoma Regional Commissionerduring a meeting of stakeholders.

He said the move was aimed at facilitating taxpayers’ access to communications and security.

However, he explained that there were still a number of challenges facing the exercise because, he added, many streets- particularly those in the peripherals of the city of Dodoma -were unplanned.

Mr Katambi also directed all the districts of Dodoma Region to ensure infrastructure that identified streets were in place.

Participants in the meeting, which involved workers from the district councils of Chamwino, Bahi and the City of Dodoma under their district commissioners, agreed to enact by-laws to ensure the exercise became successful.

“All district councils should create a good environment that can lead to the installation and naming of road and street signs including house number plates to enhance easy access by any institution or people,” said Mr Katambi

For his part, Works, Transport and Communications ministry acting permanent secretary, DrJim Yonazi(Communication portfolio), said great achievements would be obtained only if the government identifies its streets.

Dr Yonazi added that in areas with postal cards it was easier to get and identify traders as well as facilitate revenue collections.

Mbalawala Ward resident Abineli  Yohana opined that conditions by the regional administration were tougher for emerging traders becausemany areas, particularly those in the peripherals, were not officially identified.
