Moshi. Fourteen people have been arraigned for allegedly setting a local government office and police post on fire Monday.
Appearing before Moshi district magistrate Mr Joachim Mwilapo, the accused were charged with two offenses. The accused were charged with illegal gathering as well as rioting and setting government building on fire.
Reading the charges public attorney Mr Baraka Nyambita who was assisted by Mr Omary Kibwana said the accused committed the crime on October 28.
According to Mr Nyambita the accused protested after Mr Jomba Koyi (Chadema) was declared winner of the Njoro ward councillorship.
The accused are Bakari Ally(41), Ally Mkunda(34), Azama Ramadhan(35), Idd Hussein (26), Aisha Ramadhan (23), Amina Bakari (55), Mohamed Ally(62) and Miraji Ramadhan(32).
Other includes Pazima Lema (27), Amir Juma (27), Freeman Ebati (25), Justine Shemweta (34), Alli Hassan (32) and Msafiri Yona (29. They denied the charges and were set free on bail after fulfilling the terms. The accused will appear before the court on November 17.
