Dar es Salaam. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is affordable to every Tanzanian, the executive director of Taifa Gas Ltd Mr Hamis Ramadhani said on Tuesday June 25 in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking during a launch of the company’s gas machines and warehouse today, Mr Ramadhini said any Tanzanian who can afford charcoal can also use LPG as cooking energy.
“Users of charcoal spend Sh60 to Sh100, 000 per month while LPG users can spend only Sh45, 000 to Sh50, 000,” he said.
However, uses of LPG per person in Tanzania is still low with an average of 1.5kg per year, compared to other neighbouring countries including Kenya 5.4Kg, South Africa 7kg, Sudan 12kg and Misri 30kg.
LPG market is growing at rate of 25 per cent but Taifa Gas Ltd is positive to increase the growth rate of 50 per in the near future.
So far, the company’s investment is Sh150bn, according to him.
“With the investment we have, it is just a matter of time that Tanzanians will forget using charcoal and firewood as cooking energies and switch to LPG use,” he noted.
According to him, Taifa gas ltd was registered in 2005 and started operations in 2008 as Mihan Gas Company before it changed the brand name to Taifa Gas Ltd in 2019.
