Bagamoyo’s bid to attain town council status delayed

Dodoma. Bagamoyo's bid to gain township council status has been delayed after it was identified that it lacked a master plan and less than 75 per cent of its area was surveyed.

Deputy Minister in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Governments) Mr Mwita Waitara told the National Assembly on Wednesday September 4, 2019 that the two criteria were not met and the move therefore could not continue.

"The government will continue cooperating with the authorities and citizens in the Coast Region in their efforts to gain the township status," said Mr Waitara.

He was responding to question posed by Mr Shukuru Kawambwa (Bagamoyo-CCM) who wanted to know when the government would issue the status.

Mr Kawambwa added that they would work on the master plan but needed support on surveying  Bagamoyo.

"Surveying is expensive and we cannot do it alone. The government should support us in this," said Mr Kawambwa.

The Minister in the docket Mr Selemani Jaffo stood up and say the government would work with the Bagamoyo leaders to see how it can support them
