Ten NMB workers survive, one dies after their boat capsizes in Indian Ocean

Ten people who were identified as NMB Korogwe branch workers survived drowning, while one failed to escape death after their boat hit was hit by a wave yesterday, Sunday 11th August 2019 in the Indian Ocean.

The boat that is owned by a yatch club in Raskazone met the accident when the employees were heading to Toteni Island for NMB family Day celebrations.

Speaking with The Citizen today, the manager of Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) in Tanga, Christopher Mlelwa identified the deceased as Patrick Kiungulia (53), who was declared missing before, and was found after 16 hours of search by divers from Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and the Police Force led by the Tanzanian Naval Command.

Mlelwa said that the cause of the accident was a wave that hit the boat owned by a yatch club in Raskazone causing it capsize.

“These workers were heading to Toteni Island as part of celebrations of the NMB family day, and that was when a wave hit their boat,” he said.
