Mwanza. Tigo Tanzania has launched the Government Electronic Payment Gateway (GePG) system that will enable Mwanza Urban Water and Sanitation Authority’s (Mwauwasa) customers to access water by paying their bills through the Tigo Pesa App.
Speaking during the launch of the App yesterday, the acting Mwauwasa’s director, Mr Meck Manyama, said the system had eased and simplified payment of water bills since a big percentage of Mwauwasa's customers had phones.
He said that Mwauwasa had more than 75, 000 customers in Mwanza City.
“The new water bill payment system has brought more profits compared to the initial system that forced customers to visit our offices in order to clear their debts,” said Manyama.
He added that the system had also increased access to customers as they were now receiving their invoices directly.
For his part, Tigo director for the Lake Zone Othman Madatti said one of the objectives of the company was to work closely with government to improve and simplify services offered to people.
He rather informed that more than 7 million customers using TigoPesa services in the country had now more options to make quick, fast and reliable payments to over 300 civil service units, government agencies and other public utilities through TigoPesa , USSD and QR Code.
He added that to get such services, customers were required to download TigoPesa App and enter a secret code so as to make the transaction successfully.
