DSE market capitalisation up by Sh196bn

Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) total market capitalisation increased by Sh196.19 billion in one day, thanks to shares price gain among cross-listed equities.

DSE reports showed that total market capitalisation went up to Sh20.13 trillion on Wednesday this week from Sh19.93 trillion on Tuesday.

Counters which experienced share price gain to boost the market were Acacia by 3.33 per cent to Sh6,200 on Wednesday from Sh6,000 on Tuesday, East African Breweries Ltd (EABL) by 1.29 per cent Sh4,720 from Sh4,660 , Jubilee Holdings Ltd (JHL) by 1.56 per cent to Sh9,250 from Sh9,100 and Kenya Airways (KA) by 8.33 per cent to Sh130 from Sh120.

Share price gains also lifted the All Share Index (DSEI) by 20.35 points to 2,088.34 points from 2,067.99 points in the period under review.

However, DSE Plc share price dropped by 3.08 per cent to Sh1,260 from Sh1,300, which led to 0.36 points decrease in Tanzania Share Index (TSI) to 3,482.64 points from 3,483.0 points respectively. This was also the reason for Sh0.95 billion decrease in the domestic market capitalisation to Sh9.15 trillion.

On Wednesday DSE recorded a total turnover of Sh61.39 million from 157,800 shares traded in 33 deals. Tanzania Breweries Ltd counter dominated the market turnover to record Sh17.32 million, the counter had 1,650 shares traded at weighted average price of Sh10,500 per share in 4 deals.

Other active counters were CRDB Bank, National Investment Company Ltd (Nicol), DSE Plc and Vodacom Tanzania.
