EU applauses election in 400 polling stations

Dar es Salaam. European Union (EU) Chief Election Observer Judith Sargentini said there have been peaceful and orderly situation at all 400 polling stations that have been visited by EU observers.

Ms Sargentini is leading the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM). She said there was a high turnout of voters and all voting procedures were followed accordingly. However, Ms Sargentini said there were some minor problems in some areas including delay of voting kits and failure to open polling stations on time.

She urged parties’ agents and polling officers to adhere to principles and laws of the land so that there could be transparency in the exercise. “Generally the voting exercise is going on well, voters are following procedures and directives from the authorities,” she said. She said EU will release its report regarding the elections on Tuesday. She urged candidate to concede defeat if they lose.
