Mwananchi Forum: Why fight against gender based violence is for all

Dar es Salaam . National Coordinator, Women in Law and Development Africa ( WILDAF), Ms Anna Kulaya said everybody should take action in the fight against gender based violence.

Speaking during the Mwananchi Thought Leadership Forum (MTLF), Ms Kulaya said everyone in our society has a responsibility to support and protect women and girls  against violence.

"Every one of us, males and females in our different positions we must take part in protecting the rights of women and children, " she said.

According to her, there are many initiative that are coordinated national wide to inspire people in taking action against the gender based violence.

Speaking during an 8th edition of Mwananchi Thought Leaders Forum (MTLF), Chief executive officer for Legal Services Facility (LSF), Ms Lulu Ng'wanakilala.

Ms Kulaya said one of the initiative is the annual 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence, which is celebrated globally.


This year’s according to the United Nations-Women this year's theme for the campaign is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”

Ms Kulaya said, change is possible but it require determination and involvement of everyone in the society.

It has been reported that during her lifetime, one in three women will experience violence solely because she is female.
