Pemba. The ADA TADEA’s Union presidential candidate, Mr Georges Gabriel Bussungu, has pledged that, if elected in October’s General Election, his administration will prioritise establishing industries in every District of Pemba Island to boost the local economy.

Addressing a public rally at Kangagani Stadium, Pemba, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Mr Bussungu said industrialisation would be a cornerstone of his government’s development agenda.

He added that, with public support, the ADA TADEA government would set up industries in each district, tailored to local economies and resources, to ensure Pemba advances in industrial development.

Mr Bussungu emphasised that the islands cannot prosper economically without industries.

He noted that, while many residents engage in seaweed farming and other agricultural activities, there are no factories to process these products, a gap his government intends to address.

He said Zanzibar’s main economic activities include agriculture and fishing, promising that his administration would build storage facilities for fish, enabling buyers from outside Zanzibar to access supplies from Pemba Island.

Mr Bussungu also highlighted the need to equip fishermen with proper gear to carry out their work safely and efficiently in the open sea.

"We have observed that in Pemba, there are numerous economic activities, including seaweed farming, entrepreneurship, and fishing. There is every reason to establish processing and production industries to increase citizens’ incomes," he said.

The party’s running mate, Mr Ali Hassan, said that, with public support, they would construct a large bridge at Kojani Crossing to facilitate movement and enhance economic activities for residents of the island.

For his part, the party’s presidential candidate for Zanzibar, Mr Juma Ali Khatib, said that, if elected, he would create a special fund for orphans, noting that they often face challenges accessing education after losing parents.

“The party is committed to ensuring they enjoy the same fundamental rights as other children,” he said.
