A total of Sh2 billion has been given out by the Postal Bank under a special scheme aimed at empowering women in the country.
Dr John Jingu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children said the funding was part of the government’s commitment to serve special groups in society.
He was speaking Thursday, November 26, 2020 when officially opening the 8th Mwananchi Though Leadership Forum (TMLF) on 16 Days campaign against gender violence themed ‘Change Begins With You’ held at the Kissenga Auditorium PSSSF Millennium Tower in Dar es Salaam.
Dr Jingu said the government believes efforts to stop violence against gender based violence needs a collective effort to reach the target of a free gender based violence community.
“The government is rolling out different efforts to make sure a woman is empowered economically as a way of improving their lives. This will go a long with paying attention to the laws of the country and punish people who break the laws accordingly,” said Dr Jingu.
He further said he gender desks started by the government and one stop centers are also working closely with the community to make sure violence against women and children ends.
