According to the report launched yesterday, both print and electronic media gave more coverage to the CCM’s presidential candidate, his running mate, parliamentarian candidates and councillors than those from the Opposition. The report dubbed “Watching the Watchdog” reveals that state run broadcasters both on the Mainland and on the Isles were biased reporting in favour of the ruling party.

According to the report, Zanzibar state broadcaster systematically blacked out the main opposition party in the Isles, Civic United Front (CUF) even after election cancellation by the Zanzibar Electoral Commission, (Zec) chairman, Mr Jecha Salim Jecha. Presenting the findings yesterday, project coordinator on electronic media, Mr John Mireny said, the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation, (TBC), Radio Tanzania, the Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and Radio Sauti ya Tanzania Zanzibar reported in favour of CCM.
