Police in Arusha kill two suspected robbers

Arusha. Police in Arusha has killed two robbery suspects in a shootout at Sakina Kwa Idd, in Arusha.

The Arusha Regional Police Commander ACP Salum Hamduni told reporters today December 24, 2020 that the incident happened yesterday at 7:10 pm.

He named the suspects as Joseph Bernard (24) a resident of Sokoni One and another unidentified man aged between 30 and 34 who died from gunshot wounds, whereas others escaped.

He said on the fateful day, police had earlier arrested, Bernard, who confessed to being involved in acts of robbery and that they planned to raid a money transfer shop and he (Bernard) agreed to show his colleagues.

"We set the trap and let him show the whereabouts of his colleagues but he started fleeing when he reached the Idd area and signaled that there were police in the area and then his colleagues started firing shots," he said.

He said two Browning pistols were seized at the scene with a total of nine rounds of ammunition, three shotgun shells and six pistol shells.


He said the search was underway to arrest the escapees and the bodies of the two were being kept at Mountmeru Referral Hospital.
