Yanga squeeze out win over JKT to maintain unbeaten run

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) have stretched their lead in the ongoing Vodacom Premier League following a 1-0 victory against JKT Tanzania at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium yesterday.

This is the ninth victory for the Jangwani Street giants since the start of the season.

They now have collected 31 points from 13 matches they have played. JKT Tanzania dropped to the 16th spot with 10 points from 13 matches.

Yanga has so far drawn four times. The team’s versatile player, Deus Kaseke, continued to shine after scoring the lone goal in the encounter in the 33rd minute following a good pass from Yacouba Sogne.

This is the second time for Sogne to assist Kaseke in the ongoing league whereby the first time was in the encounter against Azam FC.

Yanga’s head coach Cedric Kaze commended his players for playing well, adding that they were could have won by a bigger margin had his strikers made good use of many chances that came their way.

“We have played three matches in a period of eight days, technically, you must play bellow the standard and some of the players have to rest,” said Kaze.

Kaze said his players played tough matches against Namungo FC and Azam FC.

JKT Tanzania’s head coach Abdallah Bares said they made mistakes in the match, which allowed Yanga to win. “We made many mistakes and they punished us. We’ve to blame ourselves. We created several scoring chances especially in the second half, but they all went begging,” said Bares.

In other development, Mbeya City failed to utilize their home ground advantage after playing out a barren draw against Mtibwa Sugar while Dodoma Jiji FC thumped Ihefu 3-0 at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.
