Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s up-and-coming swimmer Sonia Tumiotto has been invited for a training development programme in England.

The talented player secured the scholarship after her impressive performance during local and international championships, including the Cana Zone Three tournament in Kampala, Uganda earlier this year. Sonia, a member of Dar es Salaam Swimming Club, is expected to depart the country early next month.

The club’s secretary general, Inviolata Itatiro, is excited about the opportunity for the player to use state of the art facilities as well as face experienced opposition.

Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Itatiro said that Sonia’s scholarship has inspired many young swimmers in the club who also want to reach her standard in the game.

While in France, she will be studying at Saint Felix School, according to the club official. St Felix is one of the successful schools in unearthing new swimming stars in the France. Itatiro the swimmer will have an ideal opportunity to fine-tune ahead of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

“It will prepare and sharpen her for the Olympics qualifying events to be held in various countries around the world,” Itatiro said, adding:

“This programme will benefit her as she will be interacting with top players and coaching staff.
