Government grilled over sanitary towels to girl students

In her question, Ms Yosepher Komba (Chadema- Special Seats) said most female students in the country were missing lessons due to absence of the sanitary towels.

Dodoma. The government has been grilled again in the parliament over wanting provision of sanitary towels to primary school girls.

In her question, Ms Yosepher Komba (Chadema- Special Seats) said most female students in the country were missing lessons due to absence of the sanitary towels.

Ms Komba challenged the government to consider distributing the towels to female students across the country.

For her side, Ms Pendo Peneza underscored the need for the government to immediately serve female pupils to mitigate the challenge.

"It’s prudent now for the government to strategise on how best to serve the hapless girls who suffer for lacking sanitary towels. And because of the absence of the towels some resort to using papers, which is unhealthy. It is really saddening to see our girls going through such challenges," she said.

In his response, the deputy minister in President Office (Region Administration and Local Government), Mr Joseph Kakunda said the government was aware of the problem and promised that it would take proper action to improve the situation.
