Geita.   More than 40 children from different parts of Geita Region are expected to undergo cleft lip operations at Sekou Toure Hospital in Mwanza Region under the sponsorship of Geita Gold Mining.

Apart from  that, children suffering from grows and minot tumors  will also be operated on freely by doctors from Australia in cooperation with Sekou Toure Hospital doctors.

Geita Gold Mining Ltd manager for social responsibility Manase Ndoroma said the firm had been supporting wananchi as one way of returning profits to them.

Ndoroma revealed that over Sh26 million will be spent on the 40 children.

“GGM has been offering sponsorship for children with cleft lip and swelling problems for 13 years now and in fact, as you have noted, mothers now see their cured children playing happily and freely with their peers,” he said.

During the 13 year period, he said, 1,200 children have already undergone operations, whereby about Sh780 million was spent, expressing that that is one of the firm’s tasks in ensuring that it returns part of its profits to wananchi living around GGM.
