President Samia Suluhu Hassan is the first woman to be awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy (Doctorate Honoris Causa) by Jawaharlal Nehru University. Apart from President Samia, other leaders who have already been awarded the Honorary Degree by the Jawaharlal Nehru University include Russian President Vladmir Putin and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
