Govt aids aflatoxin victims with food

The food will be provided by the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA)

Aflatoxins are a class of toxic compounds that are produced by certain moulds found in food, which can cause liver damage and cancer. Poor preservation of food crops is the major cause of Aflatoxins.


                Dodoma. The government has distributed 100 tonnes of food to help victims of food poisoning in the region.

The director of the disaster department at the Prime Minister’s office, Mr Mbazi Msuya,  said district councils have been directed to submit reports on the number of people and the amount of food contaminated by aflatoxin.

He revealed that the food would be provided by the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA). According to Mr Msuya, the ministry of agriculture, livestock and fisheries has been directed to create awareness among residents on how to detect food contaminated with aflatoxin.
