Tanzania: Man jailed for defiling, impregnating daughter
Tabora. The Tabora Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Sadick Masunzu, 47, a resident of Tabora Municipality to four years in jail after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting his own daughter, 16, and making her pregnant.
Passing the sentence on Thursday, March 22, court’s magistrate Joctan Rushela said the court reached the decision after being satisfied beyond reasonable doubt by the evidence produced by the prosecution led by state attorney Tito Mwakalinga that the man committed the offence.
The magistrate further told the court that the accused’s action violated Tanzanian society’s norms and values, hence the court was handing him four years in jail to serve as a lesson to himself and others of similar conduct.
Earlier, state attorney Mwakalinga told the court that the accused defiled his own daughter and made her pregnant.
Mr Mwakalinga further told the court that the accused committed the offence on different dates from January, 2017 and causing the girl, who was a student of Lwanzali Secondary School in Tabora Municipality, to fail to continue with her studies.
Prosecution asked the court to mete out a severe punishment to the accused because the action by the accused to impregnate the girl student had shattered her future life plans.
