A total of 36 village executives in Kibiti District, Coast Region, have been struck-off from the list of public servants for lacking Form Four secondary education.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday at the office of the Kibiti District Commissioner, the Executive Director of the Kibiti District Council Alvera Ndabagoye, clarified that the axed executives were those employed after May 20,2004.
However, Ms Ndabagoye explained that their removal had weakened the government’s job performance in the areas they were working because residents were not served with various government services.
To cushion the gap, the executive director explained that they had temporarily employed people, who would work as village executives to serve residents.
"These 36 affected executives are those employed after May 20,2004, with Standard Seven education and having failed to develop themselves academically," said Ms Ndabagoye.
However, Ms Ndabagoye explained that for now the council was awaiting directives from above so as they could know the end result of the village executives removed from public service.
Speaking about their removal from office, one of the executives, Mohammed Mketo, said they academically failed to develop themselves because they were facing difficult circumstances at work as they wasted most of their time serving residents.
He asked the Kibiti District Council, with 57 villages, to first return them to their village homes and pay terminal benefits to them as per labour laws.
