  • In an interview with The Citizen yesterday, the UWT national chairperson, Ms Gaudentia Kabaka said there was no way sustainable development could be attained if women were still facing GBV.

The women’s wing of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), UWT, has vowed to join the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the country as part of their contribution in efforts to liberate women and enable them to participate fully in various development activities.

In an interview with The Citizen yesterday, the UWT national chairperson, Ms Gaudentia Kabaka said there was no way sustainable development could be attained if women were still facing GBV.

Ms Kabaka said the women in Tanzania have a great contribution to the economy of their families and the nation at large and that concerted efforts have to be put in place to end the age-old problem.

Ms Kabaka said tackling GBV was now part of the UWT drive.

She noted that the ruling party’s women wing would cooperate with other stakeholders including the police gender desk to ensure GBV comes to an end.

“We are going to work very closely with other activists including the police to help women get their rights,” she said.

According to her, UWT intends to serve all women in the country regardless of their political, religions and tribal affiliations.

Some UWT members have also spoken in one voice against GBV, insisting that it indeed hinders women’s development and denies them of the rights they deserve.
