Police officer handed 15 years jail term for killing Mwangosi

Iringa. High Court in Iringa Zone has sentenced Police Officer Pasificus  Simon to 15 years imprisonment  after finding him guilty in manslaughter charge against Television Journalist Mr Daudi Mwangosi.

Police officer Pificious Cleophase was on Monday found guilty of unintentionally killing television journalist Daudi Mwangosi in 2012.

Delivering his verdict in Iringa, Justice Paul Kihwelo, convicted Cleophase of manslaughter, saying the accused confessed before a justice of the peace, which was admitted by the court.

The judge deferred sentencing to today so that he could consider the submissions of both the defense and the prosecution sides. The defense pleased for lenient punishment while the prosecution called for stern punishment.

The accused was found guilty solely through the confession he made to the justice of the peace and which was submitted before the court as exhibit Number 3.
