Dar es Salaam. Digital opportunity (DOT), a non-governmental organization, has reached over 4,000 youth, women and the disabled in Tanzania through its three-year project dubbed ‘the Fusion’.

The project, which is aimed at delivering economic and digital programs to unemployed and underemployed women and youth, was implemented in three regions of Dar es Salaam, Coast and Morogoro.

The project was run by 24 youth leaders, and successfully reached 2,081 male and 2,089 females in collaboration with the Vocational Education and Training Authority (Veta).

Speaking on Thursday, June 28, during the closing of the initiative, DOT communications specialist Ndimbuni Msongole said they employed two unique programs ReachUp! And TeachUp!

“Through the ReachUp! Program we recruited and trained the youth in Veta centres which is our partner, both in urban and rural settings,” she said.

Ms Msongole added that, “In the TeachUp! Program over 200 Veta teachers, in seven centres, were digitally empowered to enhance their performance and delivery content fitting for the 21st century.”

For his part, the director of technical and vocational education, training from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr Noel Mbonde, said the government was very much in support of such movements as these would help in transforming the country into medium economy.

“Technical skills are essential in making people self-employed, and if the government puts its efforts in providing the means then it will help in advancing the youth’s generation economically,” he said.
