24 Tanzanite mines still banned on production

What you need to know:

At least 24 Tanzanite mines ordered to continue stopping mining activities after a year elapsed without production following the government’s order.

Mirerani. Owners of 24 Tanzanite mines, who encroached on each other with TanzaniteOne Mining Ltd in Mirerani Town in Simanjiro District have been ordered to stop their mining activities until they resolve their dispute.

Previously, the owners of the 24 mines and Gem and Rock Ventures Co. Ltd brought mining activities to a standstill for over a year, before the latter, after writing a letter, was recently allowed to resume production by Minerals minister Dotto Biteko.

Mirerani’s Special Zone Resident Minerals Officer in Manyara Region, Daudi Ntalima, said this yesterday when making a clarification on the mines in Block B (OPEC).

Ntalima reiterated that the mines should stop production until when the decision on the dispute was made by the Ministry of Minerals, warning the owners of the mines not to use the opportunity given to Gem and Rock Ventures firm to resume production.

"Some owners of the mines had the impression that after the firm was offered the opportunity to resume production they would also be offered with that opportunity. This is not correct as that was a special case," said Ntalima.

However, Ntalima warned both Tanzanite One Mining Ltd and the State Mining Corporation (Stamico) against disturbing miners of Gem and Rock Ventures Co. Ltd.
