Dar es Salaam. CCM candidate Dr John Pallangyo has clinched the Arumeru East unchallenged after seven of his opponents failed to meet the requirements by the electoral body.

Arumeru East election supervisor who doubles as Meru district executive director (Ded) Emmanuel Mkongo made the announcement on Friday, April 19, 2019.

He said a total of 11 candidates collected nomination forms for the by-election, three of them didn’t return the forms while seven others returned but they were found to short of the required qualifications.

“Some of them failed to pay nomination fees of Sh50,000, others failed to get guarantors while others couldn’t submit affidavits from certified advocates and magistrates,” he said.

Speaking after the announcement, Dr Pallangyo thanked his party CCM for the nomination and the trust it bestowed on him.

“I will use the opportunity as the MP to remind President John Magufuli to fulfill promises he made to construct the five kilometers road and transform the constituency within a short period of time,” he said.

The National Electoral Commission (Nec) called the by-election in the constituency which was supposed to be held on May 19, 2019 to fill the vacant position left by Joshua Nassari (Chadema).

Mr Nassari lost qualifications to continue serving in that capacity after National Assembly Speaker Job Ndugai wrote a letter informing the electoral body that he was not no longer MP for Arumeru East
