EAC Members States agree to harmonize higher education

Dar es Salaam. East African Community (EAC) member states have agreed to harmonize higher education curricula during the EAC Heads of states 18th Ordinary Summit.

Through the agreement, which was signed during a summit held in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, higher learning institutions in the region will recognize academic certificates of student, who graduate in any of universities registered in the region.

This was announced by EAC Secretary General, Liberat Mfumukeko, shortly after the summit of heads of states.

“This mutual agreement will enable students to pursue higher learning education in any of EAC higher learning institution; the agreement will also allow graduates from any of EAC member states to seek employment in any of the members’ states,” Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) Alexandre Lyambabaje, told the summit earlier.

During the summit five winners of the EAC 2016 essay competitions were awarded.

The heads of state also received a report on the verification for admission of federal Republic of Somalia to the EAC.
