Government reiterates its commitment to vocational training

  • The government has reiterated its decision to invest in technical education in order to enable the youth who have failed to access formal education to benefit and generate more experts for the country.

Mbeya. Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled), Mr Anthony Mavunde said the government has decided to invest in technical education to provide better education to the youth who have missed formal education.

Mr Mavunde said the move will also enable the country to generate more experts in various sectors.

He made the statement on Thursday, February 21, 2019 when he graced the forum gathering regional technicians from all sectors, organized by FundiSmart Company based in Mbeya.

He said the government was aware of the large group of the youth who have missed direct employment, noting that it was planning to ensure they are formalized and recognized through self-employment.

“I commend the FundiSmart director for coming up with this idea to gather technicians through his company. The government is currently amending the Youth Development Policy of 2007 to make it compatible with the prevailing world environment and benefit more youths in the country,” he said, adding.

“The government will continue to invest the sector to ensure those who couldn’t access formal education given better technical education and produce many and better experts in different sectors.”

He said the government will continue developing skills of the youth through trainings, formalization and registration of their activities in order to have people and the country with better and strong economy.

The acting chief executive officer of Occupational Safety and Health Authority (Osha), Ms Khadija Mwenda called on technicians to protect safety in respective workplaces, noting that good heath was their major capital.

“Let us protect our health for sustainable production activities because of immense contribution you have for the country’s development and realization of middle income economy,” he said.

Earlier, FundiSmart director, Mr Fredy Herbert said he founded the company to enable the youth to realize their dreams through innovations, noting that most of the talented youths lacked support.

“My dream was to become a motor vehicle technician and I executed some of these duties before abandoning them because of lack of support. Then I turned to be the Disco Joker (DJ) before becoming a journalist, but my talent was lost several years ago.”

“Therefore, this company has three major objectives including empowerment, skills development and use technician’s profession for stimulating economic development.”

He said most of the youth have failed to identify their talents because of lacking proper directives, noting that they ended at concluding that the job was worthless.

He said through the company, technician’s challenges facing technicians will be addressed, they will be gathered, assisted to own technical activities and enable them to meet various stakeholders.
