Morogoro. Home Affairs minister Kangi Lugola has told traffic police officers to reduce checkpoints and to stop harassing innocent motorists with trumped-up traffic violation charges.

The minister gave the warning on Sunday 17, 2019 when he made an impromptu tour of the Msamvu bus terminal in Morogoro Region as part of efforts to address various challenges, including those associated with road safety.

He said he has been getting a lot of complaints from drivers who accuse traffic officers of setting up too many police checkpoints, a situation which leads to unnecessary delays.

Mr Lugola called on drivers to observe regulations irrespective of the type of vehicles that they drove, urging them to desist from speeding as it was the main cause of road accidents.

For their part, drivers said lack of road signs on many of the routes they ply is one of the causes of accidents.
