Tanzania: Morogoro Road sections now open after flooding snarl-up

What you need to know:

  •  Heavy rains which are pounding Dar es Salaam have caused flooding leading to closure of road sections—Magomeni and Jangwani—along Morogoro road.
  • The police force has now opened the road but warned bodaboda andBajaj operators who were ferrying people through the floods against the practice.

Dar es Salaam. Sections of Morogoro Road; Jangwani and Magomeni, which had been closed in the morning on Friday May 10, are now open.

The road sections were closed at 11:40 am due flooding emanating from heavy rains that have pounded the city for the last two days.

The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Commander dealing with Road Safety Mr Marsom Mwakyoma told The Citizen on Friday May 10 that the road sections have become notorious for flooding during heavy rains.

“The police force had closed the road section at Magomeni and Jangwani because of the flooding. Because it could potentially cause disaster,’’ he said.

“We also made this decision as a punishment to bodoboda and Bajajoperators who were ferrying people through the flooding area which is another risky behaviour,’’ he added.

He said the police force was following up on the operators who have a tendency of defying the police orders on such crucial issues.
