Serengeti. The Nyansurura Ward councilor in Serengeti District, Mara Region, Francis Garatwa (Chadema), is being held by the police in the district for questioning on allegations ofillegally possessing a firearm.

Garatwa, who is the chairman of the political opposition Chadema in the district, was put under arrest at around 6pm on February 12, 2019 after reporting to police following a summons from the latter.

Speaking on the phone to MCL Digital on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, the district party secretary, Julius Chacha, said he personally escorted the councilor to police, who then arrested him.A requestto bail him out was refused by the police.

When phoned for comment, the Serengeti Officer Commanding District (OCD), Mathew Mgema,said he was not in a position to comment on the matter, as he was in the middle of an official meeting.
