DSE indices fall slightly at week’s close

Market report shows that DSE all share index (DSEI) decreased to 2,281.12 points on Friday from 2,290.82 points on Thursday, while Tanzania Share Index (TSI) which measure the performance of local listed company decreased to 4,183.9 points from 4,185 point respectively.

Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) indices closed a week on Friday on a low note.

Market report shows that DSE all share index (DSEI) decreased to 2,281.12 points on Friday from 2,290.82 points on Thursday, while Tanzania Share Index (TSI) which measure the performance of local listed company decreased to 4,183.9 points from 4,185 point respectively.

The decrease in DSE indices resulted from decrease in share prices among cross listed companies including Tanzania National Investment Company (Nicol) by 13.72 per cent to Sh220 on Friday from Sh255 on Thursday, Kenya Airways by 6.0 per cent to Sh235 from Sh250 respectively.

The other was East African Breweries Limited (EABL) by 1.72 per cent to Sh4,845 on Friday from Sh4,930 on the previous day and DSE by 1.27 per cent to Sh1,560 from Sh1,580 on that period.

On the closing day, DSE recorded a total turnover of Sh59.95 million from 307,207 shares traded in 48 deals, of which local investors involved by 100 per cent in both selling and buying.

CRDB Bank recorded a highest turnover of Sh43.7 million from trading 271,682 shares in 27 deals at Sh160 each, followed by DSE Plc with a turnover of Sh9.7 million from 6,235 shares traded in seven deals between Sh1,560 and Sh1,580 each.

Other active counters on Friday were Tanzania National Investment Company (NICOL), and Vodacom Tanzania.

The total market capitalization dropped by 93.52 billion during the end of the week to Sh21.99 trillion from Sh22.08 trillion recorded on the previous day.

The decrease in market capitalization resulted from decrease in share prices among cross listed companies.
