Canon gives Tanzanian creators a new stage

New Content Item (1)

The global electronics giant is officially opening the lens wider for Tanzanian content creators, offering them a golden ticket to showcase their work on an international stage.

As part of Canon’s growing presence across Africa, this new platform is tailored for photographers, filmmakers, and digital storytellers looking to elevate their craft and break borders.

“We’re excited about what’s happening in Tanzania. I recently met with an amazing group of content creators and stakeholders,” said Somesh Adukia, Managing Director of Canon Central and North Africa.

“We talked about fresh ways to collaborate, including a dedicated platform where they can showcase their content to the world.”

Canon’s initiative comes through its ongoing Miraisha Programme, which has already trained over 7,000 African creatives and aims to reach 10,000 youth across the continent in the next three years. Think workshops, skills training, hands-on support – the works.

About 70 percent of Canon’s business on the continent comes from camera sales. Reason being young, and vibrant population with stories to tell.

“Africa’s average age is around 17,” Adukia added. “Young people here are hungry to express themselves, and creativity is at the core of everything we do.”

Commenting on the rise of smartphones and their impact on camera’s market share, Adukia acknowledged the ongoing changes in the tech space but expressed confidence that Canon’s products continue to align with market needs.

“We do not consider phones a competitor,” adding, “Smartphones are great, but cameras still reign supreme for creators who want professional, cinematic results.”

The spotlight is on Tanzania, time to focus, shoot and shine.
