Dar es Salaam. ALAF Limited, which is part of the Safal Group of companies, has unveiled a new colour coating line tech project valued at $25 million that will in turn expand the investment in building solutions industries in the country.

The project, whose commercial production is expected to start by December 2024, is aimed at enhancing the existing Industrial infrastructure through the installation of a state-of-the-art Continuous Colour Coating Line (CCL) with Three Coaters using a Double Coat paint system.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the giant project was graced by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko over the weekend.

Speaking during the event, ALAF Limited’s chief executive, Mr Ashish Mistry, said the core focus of this project is the seamless integration of the cutting-edge Continuous Colour Coating Line within the manufacturing facility.

“The advanced line will employ a superior paint system to coat Alu-Zinc coils which ensures exceptional durability and resistance to external elements including the harsh Marine Environments existing in the coastal regions of Tanzania,” he said.

The CEO further noted that one of the key features of the new Colour Coating Line is the addition of a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO), which captures the volatile compounds generated during the painting and baking process and recycles the same without emitting them into the atmosphere hence ensuring zero pollution around the site.

“The nature of this comprehensive project underscores our commitment to advancing our manufacturing capabilities while prioritizing safety, sustainability, and overall operational excellence,” he said and added that the project will generate additional direct employment to the tune of 30 people and an additional 250 through indirect employment.

On his part, the Deputy Premier lauded ALAF Limited for investing in the massive project that will give the building solutions company an edge above the rest.

“This is indeed commendable because it displays the level at which ALAF values and prioritises Tanzanians by producing quality products for them for the wellbeing of families, cities, and the nation as a whole,” he said.

He said such a level of investment is a result of government efforts under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to open doors and create a conducive environment for investors to freely operate.

Dr Biteko said that this investment is a clear indication of how competitive Tanzania’s local and international market will be as Tanzania also reduces dependency on imported products.

He also challenged other steel products manufacturers to emulate ALAF Limited and invest heavily as this will ensure more quality products at lower prices for the consumer.

“I have been informed that the technology applied here is state of the art and this is an assurance that we will get top quality products that are efficiently produced at low cost,” Dr Biteko said.
