Five telecoms exceed 92percent in delivery of quality service

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s five mobile network operators have registered an average performance of 92.8 percent in meeting national quality of service (QoS) standards, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has announced.

According to the TCRA’s June 2025 sector status report, Airtel, Halotel, TTCL, Vodacom and Yas were assessed across 17 parameters in 14 regions between April and June. The report shows that all five companies met the required benchmarks, with Yas achieving a perfect 100 percent score and TTCL posting the lowest at 81.3 percent.

“These results demonstrate the steady progress in Tanzania’s telecommunications sector and reflect the commitment of providers to ensure reliable, high-quality services,” said TCRA director general Dr Jabiri Bakari.

The Call Connection Success Rate (CCSR) averaged 91 percent across most networks, though TTCL lagged behind at 41.2 percent—well below the 98 percent compliance threshold.

The evaluation also measured mobile penetration and the spread of second, third and fourth generation technologies (2G, 3G and 4G) in the monitored regions. Other parameters included the efficiency of call transfers between towers and the quality of voice services for subscribers on the move.

In terms of data services, Kilimanjaro Region recorded the highest average mobile internet download speed of 22.47 Mbps, surpassing the national average of 19.4 Mbps.

Other strong performers included Mtwara (21.57 Mbps), Mwanza (20.81 Mbps) and Unguja (20.61 Mbps). Vodacom led in Unguja with a top download speed of 27.4 Mbps, while Yas dominated in Kilimanjaro (27.1 Mbps), Rukwa, Pemba, Mtwara, Mbeya and Singida.

The monitoring exercise covered key regions in both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, including Arusha, Dodoma, Katavi, Manyara, Mbeya, Singida and Tabora.

The TCRA said it would continue regular monitoring to encourage improved coverage, faster speeds and more reliable services for consumers in both urban and rural areas.
