Foreign investors return strongly

Dar es Salaam. Foreign investors made a strong return on Monday to the Dar es Salam Stock Exchange (DSE) after injecting more than Sh625 million through transacting CRDB Plc shares, market report shows.

The report shows that the foreign investors injected 98.06 per cent of the value of the shares bought during an opening day of the week, while locals injected 1.94 per cent of the buying value. The total turnover on Monday increased to Sh637.52 million from Sh63.92 million on Friday last week.

Foreigners also dominate selling after recording 97.79 per cent of the value of the sold shares, amounting to Sh623.41 million.

Local investors sold 2.21 per cent of the value of sold shares.

According to the report, the CRDB counter had five million shares traded at Sh125 each in 19 deals.

The TPCC counter had 5,070 shares traded in four deals at a weighted average price of Sh2,100 per share, with a turnover of Sh10.64 million.

The TBL counter transacted 107 shares an average price of Sh10,600 each in three deals, with a turnover of Sh1.12 million.

The DSE Plc counter traded 10 shares at Sh1,300 in four deals, with a turnover of Sh13, 000.

The Swissport counter had 429 shares traded in four deals at a weighted average price of Sh1,700 per share, with the turnover of Sh729, 300.

The total market capitalisation remained at Sh19.85 trillion as of Friday last week.

DSE was incorporated in September 1996 and trading started in April 1998. It is a member of the African Stock Exchanges Association. The exchange is open five days a week, from Monday through Friday.

Activities of the exchange are monitored and supervised by the Capital Markets and Securities Authority. The DSE operates in close association with the Nairobi Securities Exchange in Kenya and the Uganda Securities Exchange in Uganda. Plans are underway to integrate the three to form a single East African bourse.

On June 29, 2015 the Dar-es-Salaam Stock exchange re-registered to become a public limited company. The company changed its name from the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange Limited to Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange Public Limited Company.
